The Raleigh School of Nurse Anesthesia (RSNA) is a unique partnership among Eastern North Carolina Hospital Facilities, anesthesiology practices and the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG). Founded in 1990, the school offers opportunities for graduate study in nurse anesthesia leading to a Masters Degree. The program's founding mission arose in response to the growing need for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) with particular recognition for the needs in eastern North Carolina. the school was founded through the cooperative Anesthesiology Associates, Inc. (now Critical Health Systems of North Carolina.) Rex Hospital ( now Rex Healthcare), Wake Medical Center (now WakeMed) and Raleigh Community Hospital (now Duke Health Raleigh Hospital).

The twenty-four month clinical and didactic curriculum offers students the opportunity to develop into safe and competent nurse anesthetists by providing a course of study that encourages lifelong learning in the practice of nurse anesthesia. RSNA facilities are located at 23 Sunnybrook Road, Suite 163, Raleigh, North Carolina 27610. The clinical curriculum of the program is taught at clinical sites in the Raleigh and Eastern North Carolina. The available clinical facilities offer the student exposure to more than 100,000 cases each year, covering all ages and specialties. The successful graduate earns a Masters degree in Nursing (Nurse Anesthesia Concentration) from UNCG.
Students receive the required clinical experience under the instruction/supervision of CRNSs and anesthesiologists. The hours of practicum vary in order to offer a wide variety of clinical experiences and to enable the student to correlate theory and practice. Graduate and clinical component clock hours average approximately 35 hours per week per semester. Additional time is required for preoperative and postoperative visits, care planning and independent study. The time committed to study, class and practice may consume over 60 hours per week.
