Chartered in 1891, Meredith College has grown to become one of the largest independent private women’s colleges in the U.S. We offer a comprehensive liberal arts undergraduate education, as well as coeducational graduate programs in business, nutrition and education.

Academics and Special Programs:

  • Meredith offers 45+ majors and concentrations at the undergraduate level.
  • Meredith awards Bachelor of Arts; Bachelor of Science; Bachelor of Music; Bachelor of Social Work; Master of Business Administration; Master of Education with licensure in elementary education, English as a second language, reading, special education or academically and intellectually gifted (AIG), Master of Arts in Teaching with licensure in elementary education or special education; and Master of Science in Nutrition degrees.
  • Meredith's innovative undergraduate general education curriculum encourages students to be involved and concerned citizens of their community and the world.
  • In 2001, Meredith became the first women's college to adopt a campus-wide laptop program as part of the Meredith Technology Initiative. Full-time students receive a ThinkPad® loaded with professional and educational software to use on Meredith's wireless campus environment.
  • The Undergraduate Research Program supports student/faculty partnerships in the pursuit of research and creative activity in all fields. College funds support these projects and underwrite travel costs for students presenting their work at conferences.
  • Study abroad options include a summer program in Italy, Switzerland and England, plus a variety of semester and year-long travel opportunities throughout the world. Semester programs at the United Nations in New York City or in Washington, D.C. are also available.
  • Honors and Teaching Fellows programs are offered. Meredith is one of five private colleges participating in the N.C. Teaching Fellows program.
  • Internships and Cooperative Education are available in all areas of study.
  • The Cooperating Raleigh Colleges consortium allows students to take courses at other Raleigh colleges and universities. Meredith offers a dual degree program with NC State University's College of Engineering.
  • In 2005, Meredith was recognized by Washington, D.C., nonprofit The Education Trust for having the sixth highest graduation rate in North Carolina.
  • Of the full-time, first time freshmen who entered in the fall of 2001, 53% graduated within four years, 61% within five years.
  • Post-baccalaureate certificate programs at Meredith include the Paralegal Program and the Dietetic Internship Program.
  • Meredith offers numerous opportunities for coeducational graduate and professional study, and lifelong learning programs.

Meredith students participate in:

  • More than 90 clubs and organizations offering 500+ student leadership positions (all for women!)
  • Athletic teams including cross country, basketball, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball
