Lenoir Rhyne University

One university has been here from the beginning.

In the late 1800s, the town of Hickory was little more than a tavern and a train stop and Lenoir-Rhyne, then Highland Academy, was a single room school dedicated to providing an above-ordinary education to its handful of students.

These days, things are a little different. Hickory is the fourth largest metro area in North Carolina. Lenoir-Rhyne has evolved from academy to college to university, and is now one of the most respected liberal arts institutions in the area.

The "new" L-R is more dedicated than ever to enriching the lives of Hickory residents. Programs such as Visiting Writers and Concert Series are bringing top artists to the area; L-R's partnership with North Carolina Teaching Fellows is providing passionate, talented young teachers: and our Reese Institute is working tirelessly with local business leaders to conserve the state's natural resources, while promoting sustainable growth.

A community and a university rising together. That's Hickory and L-R. We’re looking forward to new heights in the coming years.
