ECU / Loessin Summer Theatre

As you're probably aware by now, the ECU/Loessin Summer Theatre did not perform in McGinnis during 2010. Instead, we were invited to join several other North Carolina universities in a celebration of theatre and dance at the Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo, NC. Although there was a lot of sweatin' and swattin', there were also three terrific shows produced exclusively for them.

First there was The Fantasticks, June 15-17, the musical by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones that was last performed by the Summer Theatre in 2006. This was performed in their intimate, 200 seat, indoor theatre which is the kind of theatre for which The Fantasticks was intended.

Next, we headed outdoors for two large shows in the Pavilion Theatre. Moonshine and Molasses, June 22-24, a full length jazz dance piece by our own Tommi Galaska set to the music by the Uncle Mountain band. We closed with Cohan: A Tribute to George M. Cohan revue, June 29-July 1 with a special performance complete with fireworks on July 4.

As a professional, producing theatre for over 35 years, the Summer Theatre typically presents a season of three productions in June and July. The usual season consists of musicals, comedies, and dramas. Each production runs Tuesday through Saturday (matinee & evening). Performances are held in the McGinnis Theatre on the ECU campus.
