As the weather warms up, people like to walk in the park with their dogs - not realizing that standing water, lakes and streams can carry a very serious bacteria called Leptospirosis. This infection often causes fatal liver and kidney failure. Water and soil can become contaminated by the waste from infected wildlife. Unvaccinated dogs become infected by direct contact through cuts in the skin, ingestion or through the nose or eyes.
Once infected, dogs can transmit the Leptospirosis bacteria to humans, who can also become ill. Rural areas around lakes and streams have a higher incidence of infected wildlife; however, many of our greenways provide direct access for wildlife into city parts.
To protect your dogs, please ask about the new 4-way vaccination against Leptospirosis.
Puppy Training Classes:
We now offer puppy training classes for puppies up to six months of age. Classes will meet on Tuesday evening and will last for six weeks. Instruction will focus primarily on basic obedience skills, etiquette and socialization. Please call or come by our office to fill out an application
