As we approach the end of 2010, Garner Parks and Recreation celebrated a number of accomplishments and achievements. White Deer Park Nature Center received a Gold LEED certification, making it the first “green” designed center of its type in the Carolinas. Garner Senior Center celebrated its 20th year anniversary, while serving as home to the Garner G Squad Gold Medal Winners for both Wake County and North Carolina Senior Games.
Garner Historic Auditorium launched several performance series including Jazz, Bluegrass and Broadway Voices. The department also received a $75,000 grant for the construction of South Garner Greenway. The one-mile greenway will connect multiple neighborhoods, elementary schools, local businesses and existing parks.
