Magic Wings Butterfly House and Bayer CropScience Insectarium

The Museum of Life and Science is a regional science and technology center. It is the largest museum butterfly house east of the Mississippi. The three-story-tall, tropical conservatory features rare and enchanting species of butterflies from Asia, Africa, and Central and South America. The conservatory includes beds of exotic flowers, a flowering meadow, tropical fruit trees in a rainforest area and a stream garden. The Insectarium features more than 25 live exotic and native species of insects and insect predators and an extensive collection of mounted specimens from around the world.

Magic Wings Butterfly House (open year-round). Encounter hundreds of exotic butterflies fluttering through rainforest trees, feeding on vibrant tropical flowers, and gliding over a flowing stream. The conservatory maintains a welcoming tropical climate of 80 degrees F (27C).

To provide a natural habitat for the tropical butterflies, Magic Wings contains over 250 species of plants. Flowering plants that are known to be favorite nectar and pollen sources for butterflies, such as Pentas and firebush, grow throughout the conservatory. A variety of beautiful flowering nectar plants are visible in the “meadow” next to the pond.
