Sutton Lake Public Fishing Area (PFA), Wilmington


How To Go:
From I-40, take exit 398 and go west on N.C. 53 through Burgaw. Go 10.5 miles; turn left on U.S. 421. Go 17.5 miles on U.S. 421 south; turn right on a small paved road at the Sutton Lake and Commission boating access area signs. Go 1.5 mile to the end of the road and the Sutton Lake Boating Access Area (road changes to gravel after 0.5 mile.) Public fishing area is to the right of the boating access area. From Wilmington, take U.S. 421 north approximately three miles; turn left on the small paved road described above. From this point, follow the above directions.

About the Sutton Lake:
A universally accessible, wooden fishing pier has been constructed with handicapped parking spaces available. Rows of fish attractors have been installed radiating outward from the pier. Several trees have been cut and cabled to the shoreline, and tupelo trees have been planted in the shoreline areas to provide additional cover for fish.

Primary Fish Species: Largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, channel and fiathead catfish and crappie.
