French Broad River

This beautiful section of river is located in Western North Carolina. If your family or group is visiting the Little Switzerland, Spruce Pine or Bakersville NC areas this is the full day adventure with all the right stuff.

Flowing 201 miles, the French Broad is the longest river in North Carolina. It is the third oldest river in the world, older than the mountains through which it travels. Only the Nile and the New River predate it. - Class 3-4 - Minimum age is 7.

North Toe River

Surrounded by majestic mountains, the Toe River Valley was first inhabited by the Cherokee and Catawba Indians who used the valley as a hunting ground. The Toe River has a lot to offer. Safe for the youngest of kids(4) in our guided rafts and great fun in our one man rafts. This adventure leaves from Boone,NC and Spruce Pine,NC. All trips give a river safety instructional prior to the trip.

The Toe River springs to life from Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak in the eastern US. It flows through scenic gorges as it becomes the Nolichucky River, and eventually the French Broad. Historic Spruce Pine and Bakersville are located along the banks of the Toe.- FAMILY FUN - Minimum age is 3-years-old for half day and 5-years-old for full day and overnighters.


Enjoy the wondrous beauty of underground exploration as our guides take you through some of eastern Tennessee's most amazing caves. This trip meets in Boone, Banner Elk or Blowing Rock. The minimum group size is 8.

Similar to the adventure above, but also enjoy the luxury and convenience of bathrooms & hot showers. This trip is also a overnight adventure that includes one day of rafting, one night camping at a campground with bathhouse and three meals. However, the sky is the limit and we will gladly make your trip as extravagant as your budget and imagination will allow.

Two Days of Rafting

For the truly adventurous offering an overnight rafting trip. This package includes two days of rafting, one night of wilderness camping, three meals, and the most memorable vacation of a lifetime! As these trips require a good deal of planning for overnight adventure. min. age 7.

Spring Maid Mountain:

This secluded 400 acre retreat, located on the North Toe River, offers peace, quiet and tranquility. Just a mile and a half off the Blue Ridge Parkway, Springmaid Mountain offers an abundance of activities to keep you busy your entire stay with us! Mitchell County:

The Chamber operates two locations in Mitchell County. The Mitchell County Visitor’s Center is located in the Museum of NC Minerals, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Visitor’s Center greets over 200,000 visitors each year and provides them with information about the county. Administrative offices for the Chamber are housed in the Wylie Building in downtown Spruce Pine. Being located half way between Hickory and Asheville along Interstate 40, the Marion, craft studios and galleries including the renowned Penland School of Crafts, onto the Parkway to an historic apple orchard, whitewater rafting, hiking, fishing, gallery and studio touring, gemstone mining, Spruce Pine, Little Switzerland Area makes a great "base camp" area for exploring the mountains of North Carolina.

Full/Half Day Float Trip meets in the Spruce Pine/ Bakersville, NC area. Trips are taken on the Toe, Nolichucky and French Broad Rivers. These rivers offer some the best small mouth bass and musky fishing in North Carolina.

Dedicated to the sport of flyfishing and conservation minded and practice "Leave No Trace" camping and try to have very minimal impact on the local environment. Strictly practice Catch and Release, mostly because IT WORKS!! Over the years caught some of the same fish from the same spots year in and year out proving the Catch and Release is a great practice. Great Smoky Mountains National Park has about 2,115 miles of streams within its boundaries, and protects one of the last wild trout habitats in the eastern United States. The park offers a wide variety of angling experiences from remote, headwater trout streams to large, cool water smallmouth bass streams. Most streams remain at or near their carrying capacity of fish and offer a great opportunity to catch these species throughout the year. Fishing is permitted year-round in the park, from 30 minutes before official sunrise to 30 minutes after official sunset.

Wolf Sanctum:

The Wolf Sanctum was founded to provide a safe refuge for captive born Wolves (and Wolf-dogs). Programs consist of an educational program given by the Director about the Wolf: their importance as a top predator in our eco-system; interesting facts about the wolf; their behavior; and current conservation efforts. Group participants will get to meet the residents of The Wolf Sanctum, which represent several sub-species of the Gray Wolf. As each new wolf finds a safe refuge in our sanctuary, it adds to the melodious albeit mournful sounding chorus of howls,  an old refrain for survival.  It is a plea we should not, cannot, ignore.
