How did you choose this line of work? While a college student at Lenoir Rhyne, I worked part time at the Grill. When I graduated, the current owner. Homer Eckard. Offered to sell 50% of the business to me. I thought it would be a great investment opportunity. As a business/accounting major, it provided me the chance to use my education in operating a real business. The investment was returned in less than 12 months and for the past 36 years The Grill has been an integral part of my life.

What is the best advice you've ever received and who gave it to you? Treat customers like family don't reduce quality, and most importantly, honor the Lord in all of your practices. These come from Pastors, friends and business partners.

What is next for your industry? The economy in this area has presented many challenges. We have looked into expanding hours and creating new menu items to attract a larger customer base. We have recently added breakfast plates and soups which have been a big hit with our customers.

What has been the best day of your business life? Purchasing the business was a big day. Personally 1 feel like today is the best day of my business life. Each day is a gift from God complete with opportunities to bless and be blessed by those we meet. Our business centers on customer service, and I love and appreciate the people God has brought our way.
